Charleston Mercury Broadside
Charleston Mercury Broadside - "The Union Is Dissolved!"
Minutes after the vote by the South Carolina Convention to leave the Union, this broadside was printed by the fire eater newspaper "The Charleston Mercury." I own the original that was recently purchased at auction and made copies for my children using a huge digital scanner and Gicler reproduction. I can not tell the original from the copy. Having bid on more than one broadside, this one is the best conditioned broadside ever sold at auction. No holes, no tears, no repairs. It is as perfect as possible.
You are buying a digital facsimile from my original print, digitally scanned at 600 dpi (dots per inch) on a German Cruse scanner, then color corrected to match the original using photoshop. The resulting file is printed on a large format professional quality inkjet printer (a print known as a "giclee") with indelible ink on 308 gram cotton rag paper.
Make history and display a significant historical event - "The Union Is Dissolved!" SKU:Charleston Mercury $300.00

Map of the Defences of Charleston City and Harbor
32 Inches by 41 Inches
Old Steam Navy has reproduced and digitally colored a rare map on the finest clay coated paper: Map of the Defences of Charleston City and Harbor showing the works erected by the Union Forces - 1863-1864. We have never seen this map in any book or other publications. Locating this work was difficult. General Quincy Gillmore, who lead the siege of
Charleston for the Union Army, prepared the map as part of his explanation in his engineering report.
The map is rich in historical detail. It includes:
- The city of Charleston and its adjoining islands.
- Charleston Harbor, the ship channels into the harbor and corresponding soundings.
- All rivers, and streams.
- The location of Union and Confederate lines of defense and fortifications. Each line or fort is named. Even the location of the Swamp Angel is on the map. Everything is here. Everything.
- Three arcs across the city of Charleston detailing the artillery
yardage from Cummings Point. The first arc is labeled effective range, the second arc is called annoying range, and the third arc is labeled
extreme range
- The topological features of the terrain.
- The locations of roads, plantations, railroads, inlets, sounds, creeks, & waterways.
- Longitude and latitude.
- A horizontal view runs along the bottom of General Gillmore's map. It
shows Charleston harbor which details the following: Battery Wagner, Battery Gregg, Fort Johnson, Fort Sumter, St. Michael's spire, the Circular Church in downtown Charleston, Fort Moultrie, Fort Beauregard, and the city of Mount Pleasant.
We have two maps 32 inches by 41 inches for $500 each. We have four maps 20 inches by 26 inches for $300 each.
That is it & no more. SKU:OSN-23 $500.00

The Left Batteries - Charleston
13 Inches by 20 Inches This map was prepared by Union General Quincy Gillmore to document his campaign to capture Charleston. The map's title is -
Plan of a Portion of the Siege Operation Against the Defenses of Charleston Harbor Showing the Left Batteries.
1. Batteries erected against Fort Wagner prior to July 18, 1863. 2. Part of the Breaching Batteries erected against Fort Sumter used also against Fort Wagner and Battery Gregg
This map shows the location and design (both vertically and
horizontally) of the many earthworks and artillery batteries on Morris
Island.
The plate of the Left Batteries was issued to complement the map of Charleston Defenses shown above.
They are part of the same series of exhibits documenting the siege of Charleston. The inability to display these maps on the internet in high resolution does this work an injustice.
We‘ve blown up a section of the map to try and show you more of its historical detail. SKU:OSN-22 Retail Price: $0.00 Everyday Low Price: $150.00
